She has no holiday...........

She was sitting in front of me and i was telling her that how i spend my weekend.

"Sunday, Oh! I love Sunday", I told her with a joy, " There are lots of enjoyments I have with my family on Sunday".

She smiled a little, but the feeling was dimmed soon on her face. " I hate Sunday." I saw her astonishingly. " Yes, I hate Sunday, because Sunday has no meanings for me except that this is a name of a week day. I have no holiday, how can Sunday becomes important for me."

She stood and went outside the room, and I thought " She is Mad ".

But this thought after a very short time period, changed in my mind.

Let's take a journey towards her life.

She is a working woman, works almost for 16 hours a day, 8 hours in office and 8 hours in home. His husband works only for 8 hours in office, rest of 16 hours are his, no matter he is going to spend that time in which activity.

She has lots of responsibilities including household works, kids also want her attention as they love their mother so much and try to help her also but they are just kids, having their own things to do. She sometimes thinks that why don't her husband and her family feel her problems, she is a woman more weak than a man and always needs more rest than a man, then why is that if she is a professional woman and still people suppose her to do all works at home also. Even on weekends, everyone has his own activities except her, because she just has to finish the previously remaining things and to prepare for a coming busy week.

The question is that even if a woman is a house wife and does not work in any office, does not she keep the right to spend a holiday? When men tire after their daily routine and want a rest on weekends, why not a woman could have holiday for resting and planning for any other activities?

I just thought about it. What a day it would be? What a Sunday it would be when there will be no cooking, no dish-washing, no dusting, no ironing, and all mothers and wives would be free to do whatever they want to. They will spend time in playing with their kids, shopping with their husbands, meeting their friends and siblings, and finally would be fresh and bright, to face a coming hectic week.

But i think its just a thought, can not be a reality until and unless we all feel our responsibilities for women of the society. On weekends we can do all things ourselves, make lives of our mothers easy, to give them a rest, at least a vacation so they could have some time for themselves.

On Mother's day when most of the Pakistani Mothers are still working in their homes for their husbands and kids, for them can not be a better gift than a thing just like that.

Love your Mothers and Love your Wives, because women are the beauty of the happiness.

Rethinking the Divine Thought...............

Like Shakespeare and Goethe, Agha Hashr Kashmiri presented the concept of "Rethinking of Divine Thought" in his play Balwamangal . The first two scenes are inspired from the "Prologue in Heaven" in Goethe's Faust but the conflict is altered.

Following is the dialog between Krishna and Shankar, which reflects the concept of this Rethinking.

Shankar: Why is it that sin and misery are to be found in the world?

Krishna: How the spider entraps itself inside its own web and cannot be freed until and unless the web around it is broken first, likewise unless this world breaks the relationships with greed, lust and hatred, and struggles for being pious, will meet pain."

Shankar: Seeing this condition of the world, a wave surges inside me as if wanting me to take a round from one corner of the universe to the other, so that I may tell the right path to souls who have forgotten their way."

Krishna: This world is like a field where a person reaps whatever he has sown in the previous life and then sows the seed for the next. Every action has a mystery. Can it be possible that only by your saying "Light", a lamp should lit up without cotton, oil and fire coming into a combination? Unless earth, seed and water combine, can a tree be born from your words "out and grow"? And can it give flowers and fruits? It does not matter whether you pass one or million trials for making right of wrong. Until and unless all stuff for reformation and remaking comes together, it is hard for anyone to come from wrong to the very right path.

Because everything depends on Fate, One says Oh! The other says Wow! One laughs, the other cries.
Whatever is decreed by Fate shall be met, whatever the Fate does will happen."

Eventually, when Shankar insists that he could change the decision of sinners, Krishna agrees to check his abilities and says," If this is your wish then come, a Brahman named Balwa Mangal is destroying his faith as well as life being blinded by his lust for a woman of sin, Chinta Muni. Let me take you to him so that you may test your powers."

Synopsis of "Balwa Mangal", A beautiful play by "Agha Hashar Kashmiri"

As many times, i read this play, more i got an intense feeling of Love for it.

Here i am just giving a short summary of this play to share with all of you and to know what are your's interpretations about the play.

There is an interesting dialog between Krishna and Shankar about the good and the evil in the world, after which, finally Krishna asks Shankar to test his powers on a Hindu Brahman Balwa Mangal, who is destroying his life as well as religion in the lust of a woman named as Chinta Muni who is a prostitute. Shankar , joyfully accepts the challenge. But, when he tries to convince the man in all possible ways he could, to leave that wrong woman and go back to his wife, Shankar remains unsuccessful and returns back with disappointment.

On the death bad of Raamdas(Father of Balwa Mangal), he orders his son not to go towards Chinta Muni and to remain faithful to his wife, but Balwa , after death of his father leaves his home and decides to go at the home of Chinta.

In the dark and stormy night, when he reaches at her home, at the time, due to certain circumstances and critical situation, Chinta Muni turns out to be a pure woman and also shows the image of Balwa in the mirror of life, to him. Being very surprised and embarrassed, Balwa like Chinta decides to change his life.

Krishna, then along with Shankar, comes in contact to both of them one by one, keeping himself unknown for both and tries to check their Love for him.

And finally, after the test and hard examination of both, at Bindraban, Krishna meets both of them, tells the truth and rewards them the gift of his Love.

Blessing from your Lord................

If you are sitting alone, right in the very far corner of a Park. A huge number of people around you, but still you feel yourself lonely. You have many reasons to sit alone and feel lonely, you are sticked with thoughts and nothing, but a wave of cruel feelings is emerging inside out.

If you have come there to keep yourself away from your beloved ones, because they have done something wrong to you.

You are not a careless person, you always try to keep things easy for others, you try to satisfy all people who are connected to you, at your home, at your work place and in your friends circle. Then it happens sometimes, that you are tired, want to have a physical and mental rest. Due to loads of work, you are fed up, your muscles are fatigued, your head starts aching continuously. Your body, even soul and mind ask for mercy and advice for a pause in everything in your routine life. Your heart asks for time, it needs to talk to you about yourself, happiness, sorrows, feelings, emotions and off course Love. You agree with your decision, but at that time you are unlucky if your loved ones do not understand what do you expect from them. They want you to do things like these are usual, they do not want to satisfy your expectations but expect it from your side, even they do not have time for you. What will you do then?

You are irritated, want to scream loudly, want to tell others that you want to cry because you are alone with your pain, head ache, fever and the invisible tears that can not be shed. You can not do anything in such a crowded park so you are sitting with head down starring at your hands grasped together in your lap, empty minded, speechless and perhaps expressionless, feeling pity for yourself.

When you come back from the park, you feel slightly fresh as your dullness has been slightly deprived due to the fresh breeze. Another thing that you feel inside your mind is the desicion you have taken, to be as selfish as others are, as careless for others as others are about you, as senseless and self-centered as you found others with you. You always decide this type of thing after every sad event, but never remain spotted on your desicion, but this time you are not agreed to step back whether anything would happen. You are satisfied and returned to home.

After reaching home, immediately you recieve a phone call from your one closed friend. What will you feel when he will say to you that he is tired, fatigued, depressed, having flu and fever and his loved ones are as kind with him as your's own are with you. He will tell you that he is feeling irritation and want to cry and scream loudly because he is alone with all his pain.

What will you do? hmmmmmmmmmm........

"You are not alone. I am with you" and then you too will share your same feelings and condition with him and you wonder that what will be his reaction?

He will surely say," You idiot, who says to you that you are alone. I am with you. You are a donkey whom God has transformed to human. You fool, if me and you are having same problems at same time, you know what does it mean. It means that Allah wants us to feel each other's feelings and so we do. You can not live alone and i won't let you die alone. Just visit me this weekend and that's final, no arguements. I am dying to see your face and thousands of things i want to tell you."

You first time in whole day smile by heart and try to say," But i visited you three days ago. You forgot that? This time it's your turn to visit my home."

What answer can you expect from other side," Nonsense, i have said that you will come, so you will come. I don't want to hear your rubbish. Just take care. See you at weekend. Allah hafiz."

You put reciever down and.........laugh, laugh for next few minutes. What will you feel? Perhaps you can feel that Nature has not blessed anyone like this or Allah loves you more than anyone else in this world or You are the one who got the most precious thing of the universe or anything else, but this is sure that you are so light, freed from every burden of your cruel thoughts, no pity, no desicion, no tirring, even no pain. You are still in fever but you have happiness because you have Love and a friend..........

A friend who is a blessing for you from your Lord............

This is her style of celebrating Pakistan day........

Today is 23rd March 2010, Pakistan day celebrations and a public holiday in entire country. Everyone(according to me) would at least taken a good sleep because i think we all needed rest as we were tired after a full working Monday. Although some of us celebrated it in their own real way. Here i have one example.

I am working for last 8 months in HEJ research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, for completion of my M.Sc thesis which is now submitted and last processing is running for publishing a research paper. Yasmeen is a P.H.D student in the same lab in which i am working on collaboration. She is in this lab for almost five years and now in hardly six months, she is going to be Dr. Yasmeen.
I always call her a machine, but i know it's a crime i do every time. She comes at 8.30 in the morning, obviously in order to come so early using public transport or HEJ van she has to wake up so early in the morning as she lives far from university area. During my own work in lab i see her walking here and there, handling more than one things at one time, full dedication and devotion, no signs of tiring on her face, all time fresh and smiley. I always surprise on her temperament and determination because research in Pakistan especially in Molecular Biology is not so advanced and managed. Students doing P.H.D have to face certain serious problems and unlike other students, she does everything so properly. Sometimes she needs to go PCMD three times a day in burning sunlight just for running a single PCR reaction because PCR machine of our lab is not working properly. For almost two months split Air conditions of our lab have some problems and every student including me are suffering from the hot environment of the lab. Everyone tries to get rid of this situation by searching any alternate for it even, leaves working for some time. Today when i decided to take a good rest at home, Yasmeen decided to come and continue her work, because she thinks that she can do her work more properly and with full concentration on a holiday, as lab is less crowded and there is peace everywhere in the building on a holiday. She does not want to waste her time as resting at home has nothing to do with her hard work. So, she came today and worked and rest of us rested at home and spent whole day by watching TV, listening National songs or some outing.

So i am right in my decision to call her a machine, because she celebrated Pakistan day in her own style by working and i did it by resting.

As i always wish,"I need holiday, holiday and just holiday".

Ethical Issues In Genetic Engineering......

We have studied Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering in our last semester of Masters in Biochemistry. Despite of all facts that Genetic Engineering gave a lot of new healthy inventions, our course supervisor Dr. Siddiqua Jamal insisted us to write an assignment on the Ethical Issues that Common Men can have because this is most important thing. we searched and worked three weeks, then submitted the assignment. Mine was as normal as it is always(for me), but surprisingly she liked that assignment very much and advised me to share with other people. Although it is Scientifically written, but i tried to make it comprehensible and so i am sharing it with all of you.

In the last forty years as the science of DNA has been developed so far in the fields of biotechnology and genetic engineering, the possibilities of having advantages as well as disadvantages are also being raised. So this is a noteworthy point in today’s research that what could be the beneficial technique and which invention is ethically destructive for the life on the earth. Here we are discussing some of the ethical issues that are being controversial in the whole process of genetic engineering.

ETHICS IN CLONING :

Dolly was the first higher animal to be cloned and after that, the research in this field has been reached to the new dimensions. But the ethical issue is that during the process of cloning several controversies are being produced. First the question of the parent animal when the nucleus is taken from a different adult cell where as ovum has come from different animal and then embryo is being carried by a surrogate mother for several months, so who should really own the cloned one. Test tube babies in this sense are ethically not controversial and can be a better choice as compare to cloning until and unless further development in this particular field could be possible and which would be ethically not controversial. Another important thing is that if the cells are being taken from a developing embryo and are going to be used for cloning or stem cells research then embryo is going to lose his life and ethically it is like killing a living thing. Anything that is going to be used for the benefit of human beings but by harming another life would ethically wrong.

ETHICS RELATED TO GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS AND GENETICALLY MODIFIED MEDICINES:

For several reasons genetically modified organisms could be beneficial like genetically modified bacteria can be used to cure some viral diseases and can prevent certain very harmful diseases like Hepatitis B. The same micro organisms can be used for several other purposes for example, for consumption of oil from oily and spoiled sea shores using genetic modifications. But at the same time if these modifications are not very précised, could be harmful and can cause danger to the environment and to the human beings also. . However, what is interesting is that in general the natural genetic engineering done by gene exchange between bacteria in the soil or water makes so many different bacteria that are selected to use the toxins for their energy source, and these bacteria are better suited to local environments. So usually by adding fertiliser to a polluted area, the already existing bacteria will be able to grow well and clean up the pollution rather than adding new ones. There is still more research needed, but it shows that in nature if something is already beneficial then by using genetic engineering advantages could be enhanced. Genetically modified or genetically synthesized medicines are now widely used not only for the prevention of several diseases but also for the regulation of certain enzymes and hormones level in the body. These also have to be without any side effect or any other damage to the human health, in this way these would be more beneficial.

ETHICS IN GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOOD:

Genetically modified food like golden rice could be very beneficial due to the reasons that these are cheaper and contain a high level of vitamins and minerals so in the areas of poverty and large population these foods can provide all nutritional needs of people specially young ones and children. A modification in the taste and quality could make GM food more important. Safety is a major important thing in the production of GM food, adverse health effects should be screened, also it is to remember that these foods should not have any allergic reaction or antibiotic resistance and neither it produce any stress which could make it ethically controversial. Also it is noteworthy that the area in which GM food is being cultivated should not spread that it could disturb the food chain or food cycle, otherwise it can strike with nature. Weeds, herbs and other natural resources are also necessary to maintain this food cycle and ecosystem.

CONCLUSION:

Science is made for the ease and safety of humanity. The purpose of studying and researching in the fields related to science and particularly biotechnology and genetic engineering should be the benefit of humanity neither the destruction nor difficulties. A researcher has to do something to provide other human beings a society full of healthy environment, so every genetically engineered or genetically modified thing would be welcomed by the society if it does not contain any harmful or destructive effects and if it is providing something that is satisfactory for the people also solving problems related to life rather than making them more complicated. Everything that is not harming any naturally occurring thing, neither disturbing the environment nor colliding with rules created by nature should be acceptable for us because it is we, who can change the world only by broadening our thoughts and views.
